Our Projects

Dans La Rue

Dans La Rue helps young people who are homeless or in precarious situations. With dedication, empathy and respect, and with the support of the community, we attend to their immediate needs and work with them so that they can acquire the skills and resources necessary to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

Dr. Lucy Gilbert is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Department of Oncology at McGill University. She is the Director of Gynecologic Oncology at McGill University and McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), which is a designated level-IV unit that provides gynecological cancer care for the province of Quebec. Dr Gilbert heads the Women’s Health Research Unit of the MUHC, which focuses on research that produces practical and immediate benefits for women with cancer. The Women’s Health Research Unit is active in collaborative multinational clinical trials investigating new precision therapies for gynecologic cancers. However, Dr Gilbert’s main area of interest is the early detection of ovarian and uterine cancers while they are still curable. To this end, she has set up a network of satellite clinics called DOvEE (Diagnosing Ovarian and Endometrial Cancers Early) which provide open access and fast-track investigations to women over 45 with symptoms associated with gynecologic cancers. She and her team have developed a new genetic pap-test called DOvEEgene for detecting these cancers very early before they even cause symptoms. Her team has completed the Phase I & II testing of the DOvEEgene test and is set to launch the Phase III.

The Friendship Circle exists to bring happiness and companionship to children and young adults with special needs by celebrating their individuality, as well as bringing energy, support, and peace of mind to their families. To do this, we focus on developing the values of altruism, compassion, and acceptance in our teen volunteers as we heighten community awareness and sensitivity and encourage a sense of responsibility and involvement. Friendship Circle chapters in local communities create meaningful relationships and friendships between teen volunteers and children with special needs, increasing confidence, igniting dreams, and redefining worldviews for both parties. Friendship Circle International has more than 80 regional chapters around the world and counting.

Chez Doris was founded in 1977 as a day shelter for women in difficulty offering lunch and dinner. Today, they now serve more than 1,500 vulnerable women in precarious situations per year, who are welcomed with a spirit of inclusion and respect. Che Doris continues to expand its services by providing clothing, financial management support, medical services, night shelter, and access to various housing solutions, including their own permanent residences. Their goal is always to help vulnerable women succeed, to the best of our abilities.

Montreal Diet Dispensary

The Montreal Diet Dispensary is a community organization whose mission is to foster optimal infant health through social nutrition interventions with pregnant women in precarious situations, one pregnant woman, infant and family at a time. Based on nutritional recommendations adapted to meeting the needs of pregnant women living in difficult circumstances and aimed at reducing poverty, the social nutrition approach takes into account a number of health determinants (social, economic, and cultural status; access to health care; etc.) in order to provide interdisciplinary interventions enabling women to give birth to healthy babies, to nurture their babies’ optimal development, and to flourish as parents and community citizens.
